The bar at Bespoke, which extends onto the sidewalk through large open doors in the warmer months, is truly a destination by its own right. The cocktails are prepared with careful attention to detail, with some of the freshest and hippest ingredients to be found in New Haven.

When the bartender was preparing our Abbey Road, a refreshing combination of Liv vodka, St. Germain elderflower liqueur and white wine, he took several samples of the concoction to check that the balance of flavors was exactly the way he wished to serve it. The wine list at Bespoke also incorporates the feel of the place, intertwining classic European bottles with a selection of American and other New World wines. The staff is knowledgeable about food pairings, offering thoughtful advice to us as we perused the menu.

As for the setting, Bespoke offers several options with regard to dining atmosphere. Depending on the feel you are seeking, you can opt to dine in the Moroccan Room in the basement, the more modern upper dining room, or (in the rare months where being outside in New Haven is acceptable) relax and enjoy a meal on the rooftop. Few places in downtown New Haven succeed in masking the hustle and bustle of the city, but the roof garden at Bespoke offers a wonderful relief from the sirens and frenzy of the streets.
